La Sirena

Posted in Cigar Reviews on January 10, 2011 by MIKE

Today I have for you a cigar that is new to me and the industry that came out in the fall of 2010. It’s the La Sirena cigar a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper with a Nicaraguan Criollo 99 binder and a filler of Nicaraguan Corojo 99 Viso, Nicaraguan Criollo 98 Ligero.

I was gifted this by Miami Cigars to review and of course how can you not they are really nice people but as always I give my honest review. So how did the La Sirena stack up look below and find out.

Shape-The Prince

Wrapper-Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro

Filler-Nic. Corojo 99 Viso, Nic. Criollo 98 Ligero

Binder-Nicaraguan Criollo 99

Gifted-Miami Cigars

Pre Light- This cigar has a band that takes over the entire cigar from foot to cap. It’s a very elegant band and nice but for my liking to much on such a small cigar. The cigar is packed solid with zero blemishes just a really nice chocolate looking wrapper. Smell from wrapper is a barnyard  with a hint of sweet tobacco and a rich molasses smell on the foot. Cold draw is a bit snug but will have to see how it affects the cigar when lit.

1st Third- Nice rich tobacco notes hit you right from the start with a mild cocoa note on the retrohale. I’m picking up a hint of leather in the background after the smoke leaves your mouth. The burn is perfect and ash is light gray that holds on for 3/4 of an inch. This cigar starts off at a nice medium body cigar.

Midway- Cigar is going really nice getting notes of leather and that cocoa still with a spice through the nasal. That rich tobacco taste has left but you pick up more of the spice and the strength picks up to a full. Burn still perfect but the ash has started to get very flaky not holding at all.

Final Third and Conclusion- Things haven’t changed here in the final still getting that spice and cocoa along with the leather, body and strength remain in the full but not the kick your butt full. Burn still great and ash hasn’t gotten any better very flaky. I admit overall a good cigar and the price point isn’t bad but I haven’t seen the N.Y. price yet, I plan on looking into that today. I would smoke this cigar again and will keep in my humidor. Go out and give the La Sirena line a try to remember Enjoy Your Smokes.
