Kinky Friedman “Big Richard”
Wrapper: Honduras
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama
Size: 6 ½ x 54
Pre Light
This cigar was gifted to me a while back and for the life of me I cannot remember who sent it but thank you all the same. The wrapper has a heavy oily sheen to its maduro shade with no protruding veins it is quite nice to look at. The wrapper also has a sweet hay aroma off the unlit cigar. I have to admit the name of the cigar kind of made me laugh and wasn’t really expecting much but from the aroma and the look of the wrapper I’ve started to change my mind. After slicing the cap off and taking a cold draw I pick up a slight pepper and sweetness.
1st Third
After lighting up the “Big Richard” haha I pick up that slight pepper which mellows out after the first few pulls. The flavors I start to pick up are earthiness and a mellow nut taste in the background. The burn has stayed pretty even and cool with the ash holding on for quite a bit.
2nd Third
In the middle section of the smoke I started to pick up notes of a sweet coffee to go along with the nuts and earthiness from the first third. The ash actually had to be knocked off on the side of the ashtray after an inch or so.
Final Third
Wrapping up this Kinky Friedman the flavors stayed the same in the final inch or so except for the pepper slightly kicking back up. The cigar burned ever down to the end with no relights of touch ups along the way.
Overall
For something I though was going to be a joke cigar I thoroughly enjoyed it. The flavors although weren’t overly complex and was straight forward from beginning to end they were still rich and enjoyable. Construction was perfect from the draw to the burn. I’ll have to see if I can order these on line somewhere and if the person who sent me these is reading this please let me know so I can give credit where it is due.
Keep em burnin’
Griff

Nice review. I had one a while back that was gifted to me, and enjoyed it. They come up on CBid quite often.
smokinjoe is right – Kinky has long been a snarky voice of sanity in Texas politics and social commentary.
