This last week I have had the opportunity to do a bit of travel and visit shops and attend a few cigar events, starting with Smoke Cigar Shop and Lounge in Bridgeville, PA. It’s a new shop just outside of Pittsburgh that opened in April this year, run by Mame Kendall. Yes, that’s right, a bad ass shop run by a bad ass chick with a great selection of cigars.
I have wanted to check out Smoke Cigar Shop and Lounge for quite some time and decided to join my friends Eddie and Lawrence of Tarazona Cigars for their event on Tuesday. Mame and the crew were such great hosts and we all had a wonderful time smoking Tarazona 305s and XTCs.
The following day, Eddie, Lawrence and I decided to take a day and head to Ohio to visit the fellas at Governors Smoke Shop in Westerville. Their shop has been a stop on all of my trips out west. The people are wonderful, the shop is great and there is always some debauchery. (I think the stripper pole MAY have something to do with it though!) Here’s the infamous wooden Indian, Eddie Tarazona, Justin Richards (manager) and myself… Typical.
After that, the Tarazona team went East for other events they had scheduled and I decided to stay and hang out at Smoke with Mame for a few more days. While perusing the shop walk-in, I noticed she had the 7-20-4 Hustler and was very fortunate to be gifted one. It’s a beautiful barberpole with a Brazilian mata fina and Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper, Brazilian binder and Nicaraguan Filler.
This cigar looked fantastic and tasted just as good. It’s a medium to medium-full smoke with a lot of flavor. I picked up wood, leather, spice, coffee and anise all with a smooth finish and plenty of spicy smoke. The draw was perfection and the burn was great. This is definitely a cigar I would recommend you try.
While I was sitting in Smoke, enjoying my cigars, I had the great opportunity to meet Adam and Greg from GRAMMworks and pick up my new favorite cigar accessory, a travel humidor made from aircraft grade aluminum. It has a built in hygrometer and humidification. I just loved the idea and the design, so I HAD to have one. They just look freaking cool in a variety of colors and single and multiple cigar sizes.
The last few days have been an absolute blast exploring this industry further. Thank you Mame and Smoke crew, Adam, Greg, Eddie and Lawrence for all your hospitality and a great time!
Next week I’ll bring you another review as usual, I just wanted to share a glimpse of what I’ve been up to lately!
